By George W. Carroll
This exquisite CD project is like a homecoming to me as it features
several very gifted jazz musicians whom I've either worked with, or
know well.
In fact jazz pianist James Williams was the 1'st jazz pianist to play my new 7'4" Yamaha concert grand, many years ago along with reed-man colossus, Billy Pierce.....(A very nostalgic musical experience for me indeed, which is still vivid.) I know & have worked with both Boston based John Lockwood & Bob Gullotti (bass & drums respectively.) Their consummate artistry & talent precede their respective crafts. This is an edifying CD project presenting artistry, expressive original music, people who are destined to play ''well'' with each other, & musical comraderie.
The frosting is the wonderful music contained therein. Last, I'd be remiss if I didn't pay kudos to leader Scott Reeves.
Suffice it to say his performances on trombone & flugel are flawless as is the aesthetic of the combined group. This group has paid its dues. They are all true classic exponents of our beloved jazz genre.
