By John Gilbert
This is truly an album for lovers. Royce Campbell's guitar is set
against a lush background of arrangements by Carroll DeCamp.
"Body And Soul" features an elegant solo by Campbell as he explores this
chestnut in a contemplative mood which evokes the bittersweet intent of
the composer most adequately.
"I Concentrate On You" Is performed brightly and the message is clear
and swinging. Royce Campbell's interpretive powers give this composition
new life.
"But Beautiful" This song is a case study in melodic beauty and this
group explores it both artfully and with passion. Fred Hersch's piano
magic is a potent ingredient in this musical libation.
The musicians in this ensemble understand the love song and their
presentation under the spell of Royce Campbell's guitar are the perfect
confluence of strings, bass, piano and guitar.
Anyone who has an iota of romantic propensity will savor the sweet
urbanity of love songs done with stylish panache.
