When Nika emailed me to ask that I review her new disc, I got a little philosophical with her......telling her that I don't review every CD. I'm very partial to ''mainstream jazz'' projects, because I love bebop. I'm also able to express my love for this particular side of jazz with both my jazz quintet & big band with which I both conduct & sing. So, as I listen to the immense musical soul of jazz flautist Nika Rejto, my fears are assuaged.
I proclaim that her flute playing as well as her project to be a study in finely weaved melodic contrapuntal lines executed with great grace, clarity, & elegance......never obscuring the harmonic ''voice'' of the music she has chosen for this undertaking. Her talent is a true breath of fresh air.
