Jazz News Dubai, UAE, December 4th 2006: In an initiative that signifies the growing popularity of Jazz in the region, ‘Malcolm Braff & Tectonic Natural Tribe’ (regulars at Montreux Jazz Festival) and ‘World on A String’, both internationally renowned Jazz Acts will perform live in Dubai for the first time at ‘The Desert Jam 2006’.

Held every alternate year, The Desert Jam 2006 (formerly known as Jazz Majlis) is scheduled to take place on 6 December 2006 at the Nad Al Sheba Club. It is promoted by Scan-Trans Middle East and Kellett & Singleton Ltd in association with Seatrade Maritime and Middle East 2006.

Commenting on Desert Jam 2006, Mr Rohan Shetty, Managing Director, Scans-Trans Middle East, said: "The ethos behind The Desert Jam is to create an alternative environment to the serious nature of most conferences and exhibitions, so that attendees have a platform to let their hair down, do some networking, and most importantly, take in some excellent music."

This year the event is aimed at serving as a backdrop to an evening of socializing and networking with top regional & international business decision makers, senior delegates from the shipping industry, residents of Dubai’s new communities, media professionals and jazz & blues connoisseurs. The venue will feature sponsored private pavilions with corporate branding for guests and senior executives at the venue.

This mega event, which promises a night of live electrifying Jazz Fusion, is being organized by The Banyan International, a Dubai-based marketing, advertising and event management company.

Tickets for The Desert Jam are available for AED160 and VIP tickets inclusive of dinner and premium beverages are priced at AED 500. Corporate tables are priced in accordance with stage proximity. Tickets can be bought at Virgin Megastores and Hallmark outlets, or by logging onto www.thedesertjam.com . Tickets can also be purchased online at www.itptickets.com and www.boxofficeme.com. About Malcolm Braff & Tectonic Natural Tribe
Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1970, Malcom Braff was raised in Dakar where the pervasive African drum rhythms first drew him to music. He began the study of classical piano at age six, subsequently traveling to Switzerland to continue his studies. There he experimented briefly with rock but quickly imposed himself as an autodidact (self-taught) jazz pianist, releasing his first album as band leader in 1992.
This was followed by acclaimed concerts at the Montreaux Jazz Festival and a phenomenal virtuoso 24-hr piano solo at Vevey to celebrate the summer solstice.

Since then Malcolm has regularly appeared at Montreaux, toured with fusion project Jantol, been director of music in the city of Lausanne, signed to Blue Note with quintet COMBO, founded the Live In Vevey association at the theatre Oriental-Vevey, and traveled more than 2000km on foot on the road to St Jacques de Compostelle. This year Malcolm formed his new nine-piece band, Tectonic Natural Tribe (TNT).

Some notable albums released under the Blue Note label include "Together" and "The Preacher". The group consists of Malcolm Braff (Piano) Matthieu Michel (Trumpets & Flugelhorn) Baenz Oester (Bass) Yaya Ouattara & Minino Garay(Percussion) Julio Baretto (Drums) Cyril Bugnon (Saxophone) and Samuel Blazer (trombone).

About World On A String
Formed in 2002 by violinist Bjarke Falgren, guitarist John Sund, bassist Morten Lundsby and percussionist Ole Theill, World On A String’s music is a mix of various styles, but in the hands of these musicians, it transforms into one. When listening carefully, one can easily trace origins of Indian, Balkan and Irish music mixed with a touch of jazz and blues. First and foremost we are dealing with a band that plays original music and has its own style and sound.

The musicians are all a vital part of the Danish music scene and all members have toured worldwide in various contexts. Coming from a broad background of music, the musicians are capable of delivering anything from a very soft and lyrical vocabulary to a powerful and intense expression, combined with a sparkling rhythmic drive.

The members of the band have worked and work with artists such as: Palle Mikkelborg, Creme Fraiche, Mariam Mursal, Ganesh and Kumaresh, Van Morrison, Danish Radio Big Band, Caecilie Nordby, Bo Stief, NHOP Quartet, Bombay Hotel and many more. In 2004 their debut CD was released to rave reviews and the following year it was nominated by the "Danish Jazz Awards" in the category "Best cross-over CD of the year".
