There’s nothing like holiday inspired jazzy rhythms to lift the spirits for the holiday season and that’s just what Trio West does playing a selection of beautiful classics just in time for this year’s holidays. A New York-based piano trio led by drummer and arranger Tobias T. Gebb, the group performs twelve well known holiday tunes with a soft touch.
Joining Gebb are Eldad Zvulun on the piano and Neil Miner on bass. Bassist Miles brown subs for Miner on three tracks.
The program contains the standard tunes one expects of holiday albums among them, “Silent Night,” Mel Torme’s classic, ”The Christmas Song,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “Winter Wonderland,” the Green Sleeves standard “What Child Is This” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.”
Also included is a very surprising Latin jazz rendition of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” that moves to a delicious salsa groove. The group plays a very nice and jazzy rendition of “What Are You Doing New Years Eve” with pianist Zvulun taking center stage with a marvelous performance.
Drummer and leader Gebb also stands out on here whether on the sticks or the brushes he also delivers an appreciable performance as doe’s bassists Miner and Brown. The music is quite tender, sweet and inspiring enough to make one wish the holiday season never ended. Add this one to the list of holiday albums you plan to play from now on because you will enjoy it!
